Our children, our city, our future

Boy blowing bubbles

Wodonga Council's early years' service recognises that the family is the fundamental group of society.

It is:

  • Committed to providing quality services and intervention in the early years with a focus on prevention, health promotion, detection and early intervention;
  • Intent on looking at early childhood policies and services and building on its knowledge base through working with others;
  • Defining the links between health and wellbeing in later life;
  • Focused on the importance of supporting young children and families; and
  • Promoting close co-operation and coordination between services.

It believes a community approach must be adopted to understand the value of the early years. An early years' service directory is available from 'Documents and Publications' under Children's Services.

Building a child-friendly city

A joint project between Wodonga Council and Charles Sturt University.

In 2009, Wodonga Council and Charles Sturt University held consultations with children and young people that ended with a summit in June, 2009.

The information that children and young people provided during these consultations fell under five major topic areas. These areas included:

1. Safety and security;

2. Parks and open spaces;

3. Fun activities;

4. High St and shops; and

5. Baranduda specific.

Within each area, children and young people identified concerns, positives, ideas and solutions. This was then presented to councillors. Councillors carefully considered all points raised and identified:

1. Projects that are already taking place that covered ideas made by children;

2. Projects that are developmental stages; and

3. Other ideas that have been noted for future projects.
