Wodonga's rail bypass

Wodonga's rail bypass
Wodonga Mayor Cr Mark Byatt, Transport Minister Lynne Kosky and Wodonga Council CEO Gavin Cator discuss the project.

The first sod has been turned on the new railway station in Wodonga.

This new  station will be a contemporary building that reflects the status of Wodonga as a major regional city.

Work is progressing well on refurbishing three V/Line trains – the trains  will have new air conditioning, new toilets and soft furnishings.

This  project  will  deliver  significant  improvements  to regional public  transport  users  by  providing  a  more efficient, more comfortable and reliable service.

Starting works on the new train station signifies the great progress made on the project so far.

We have started work on all of the seven bridges that will be part of the bypass.

The  next  major  milestone  for  the  project  is  completion  of bridges, including  those at Melrose Drive and Lincoln Causeway then the start of  track works in early 2010.

The bypass  will  enable  us  to  remove  11  level crossings from Wodonga allowing the revitalisation of the city centre.

The Wodonga  Rail  Bypass Project is part of the $612.8 million North East Rail Revitalisation Project.

Communities all the way along the corridor from Melbourne to Albury-Wodonga  will  benefit  from  a  high  quality  rail service which will boost key regional centres and encourage regional growth and development.

The North East Rail Revitalisation Project,  including the Wodonga Rail Bypass will be completed in the second half of 2010.
