Wodonga is home to a broad range of industries that offer a wide range of employment opportunities. Boasting the conveniences of a modern vibrant city without the hassles of the urban sprawl of capital cities, a true balance between work and play can be achieved.
Manufacturing remains the largest industry in Wodonga providing 19 per cent of local jobs. Retail sales is the second largest providing 15 per cent of jobs. Several key projects such as the Rail Relocation project and the bulky goods centre have seen construction play a significant role in expanding Wodonga's employment base.
BAE Systems recent expansion due to new contracts as well as the recently announced $20 million retail development at White Box Rise, $20 million medical hub, $5.5 million TAFE CBD facility and new bulky goods centre on Anzac parade will see employment opportunities in Wodonga remain strong. The December, 2008 unemployment level was 4.7 per cent.
Currently Wodonga has a shortage of skilled workers in areas of health, construction, manufacturing, service and trades.
