RED Carpet winners show strength and stoicism

The winners of the 2017 RED Carpet Youth Awards reflect the strength, stoicism, and selflessness that is present among Wodonga’s amazing young people.

From 92 nominations (narrowed down to 30 finalists), winners were announced on Friday, July 28, across nine categories:

  • Sheldon Smith won the Individual Community Service Award (sponsored by Business Wodonga) for his considerable energy in helping others, particularly through the 3rd Wodonga Scout Group.
  • Ben Warhurst won the Sport and Recreation Volunteer Award (sponsored by YMCA Wodonga) for his valuable contribution to the Wodonga Hockey Club.
  • Jayden Murphy won the Young Carer Award (sponsored by GenesisCare Radiation Oncology Albury Wodonga) for his stoicism in caring for his father, particularly after his mother passed away last year.
  • Matt Shipard won the Apprenticeship/ Traineeship Award (sponsored by ATEL Employment Services) and has demonstrated incredible commitment and an exceptional work ethic.
  • Olivier Ndayisaba won the Endurance/ Persistence Award (sponsored by Aware Industries), having overcome trauma early in life, and subsequently moving from Congo to Kenya.
  • Liam Mackay won the Advocacy and Action Award (sponsored by Rotary Club Wodonga Central) in recognition of his aim to create conversations about local mental health services.
  • Caitlin Brice won the Music and Performing Arts Award (sponsored by PROJECTion Dance) for her passion for drama.
  • Maddie Anderson won the Visual Arts and Media Award (sponsored by Dutch Media) for the huge effort she puts into her art.
  • Emily Cariss won the Youth Ambassador Award (sponsored by the RACV) for her selfless giving to a range of causes. Emily was also a finalist in the Individual Community Service Award.

Highly commended awards were also presented to Mason Wise, Magdalene Arnold, Sheridan Williams, Tiana Stuart, and Hudson Smith.

The awards were presented at a gala dinner at The Cube Wodonga.
